Crypts of Death - 1.21 Update & Playguide

Hello there, fellow Crypt Dwellers!

We recently released version 1.21 to the GooglePlay store, and to celebrate that, we decided to write a longer blog post about the game.

As all the players familiar with this title know, Crypts of Death does not have an official tutorial in-game. While creating it, we felt that part of the fun was about discovering the game mechanics yourself. We did not want the mechanics to feel cryptic (heh), and instead made the UI as intuitive as possible.

However, some players have asked us about the skills and player stats, and what do they do. So, here is an introduction to all the playable characters:

CLASS 1 : ASSASSIN
UNIQUE PRIMARY WEAPON: THROWING STARS

DEFAULT STATS:
HEALTH 100
DEFENSE 3
STRENGTH 4
UNARMED 2
WISDOM 1
CLASS 2 : ROGUE
UNIQUE PRIMARY WEAPON: KATANA

DEFAULT STATS:
HEALTH 100
DEFENSE 2
STRENGTH 4
UNARMED 3
WISDOM 4
CLASS 3 : MAGE
UNIQUE PRIMARY WEAPON: SPIRAL WAND

DEFAULT STATS:
HEALTH 100
DEFENSE 1
STRENGTH 3
UNARMED 1
WISDOM 5
CLASS 4 : TEMPLAR

DEFAULT STATS:
HEALTH 100
DEFENSE 4
STRENGTH 5
UNARMED 3
WISDOM 2

Your Health value is quite self-explanatory, and the Mana is used to power your weapon's magical attacks. These are the maximum values that you start with, and they can be increased with each level the player reaches. All the weapons have varying mana attack damages and they each use a different amount of mana.

Strength and Unarmed are used for your bare-handed melee attacks, and Strength is also used to boost up your regular attacks. The regular attacks also use the weapon's own damage value.

Here you can see the Battle screen. It shows your current health, mana, weapon damage + mana damage and the cost for magic attack. The number on the enemy is its damage value, if it manages to hit you.

Wisdom is used to beef up your magic attack. The attack then uses your wisdom, strength and weapon's magic damage values together. Defense is your chance to block the attack that the enemy is hurling towards you.

Unlike in old pen & paper role-playing games, and board games such as HeroQuest, we have eliminated the chance of character rolling a 0 damage value, and instead we use the attack and defense values directly.

There are three different type of dungeons currently in the game: Forests, Marshes and Tombs. Navigating these should be straight-forward, and each of them are randomly generated with each play. You can find a random number of coins from the ground, ranging from 100 up to 500. This too, and the location of gravestones, monsters and coins, is all random-generated.

When you find the exit, you can complete the dungeon. After completion, you will be granted three bonus cards, ranging from potions, to money, to resurrection-enabling life orbs. When you visit your starting location, the Graveyard, you can spin the bonus wheel once per each day. The wheel contains much of the same items as the bonus cards.

When you have reached a new level, you can add a new points to a stat, increasing your skills. When you are above level 2, you can access the swamp areas, and when you have reached level 3, you go can explore the underground locations.

There are many perils in the dungeons you explore, so tread carefully my friends! We shall speak again soon...

In the meantime, go and explore the Crypts yourself at -
